How to Replace a Saab 93 Key Fob

Every car should be equipped with a key fob and a transmitter/remote that can lock and unlock your vehicle. The batteries in these devices could be damaged.

You can add a second key to a Saab 93 for about $400 in case you don't have two. This is done by purchasing a TWICE Module that is brand new from the dealer, and then installing it with a specially-designed hand-held device called a Tech2.

Many used Saabs only have one key. It is a good idea buy a spare as early as you can as it is much cheaper to replace the entire vehicle in case you lose the only key. It is essential to rotate your keys regularly to reduce wear and tear.

If you lose your sole key, you'll have to replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) module along with a new key and a special program to convince the car you are not trying to steal it. These modules can cost upwards of $400 to replace and are only available via mail or by phone. Most locksmiths or dealers are not able to replace the module in the same day.

The good news is, most modern Saab vehicles can have a secondary key that can be added to the system. This is possible without having to replace the original computer. The dealer will utilize a handheld computer known as Tech-2 to program the second key into the vehicle. Some independent garages can do this, but the process is more complicated and they need to reprogramme the EEPROM on your car's computer to allow it to accept the new key.

Key Fobs Replacement

Saab owners who lost their previous key or had it stolen need the replacement as soon as they can. The steps involved in getting a new working Saab 9-3 key fob will require the service department of the dealer and can cost hundreds of dollars, not including the cost of a new key, a new TWICE module (theft warning integrated central electronics) and reprogramming to convince the vehicle that the second key is not stolen.

The process is cheaper when you have a spare. The new key has to be connected to the original TWICE Module. A used one will not work. However an authentic OEM replacement can be purchased from a dealer at just a fraction of what it costs.

The handling of the car is a key aspect of its success. Despite its heavy nose and 60/40 front-to-rear weight distribution the Turbo X feels agile and composed on two-lane highways.

The only downside to this car's incredible performance is its fuel consumption. The turbocharged 2.0-liter motor gets about 27 mpg in the city and 35 on the highway. The Turbo X special edition with more power will be available for 2008 only. This model comes with an unique rear-seat that folds flat to maximize the space for cargo. It also has a unique rear spoiler, and an aggressive bumper.
