Dome Keeper is a new Roguelike game that blends underground mining and tower defense. It's akin to the arcade classic Missile Command. Dome Keeper has just released an demo on Steam ahead of the Steam Next Fest 2022 event. EXTREMECRAFT You can play it right now and dig underground to find the resources that you require to defend your dome from the evil creatures about to descend upon you.

Dome Keeper places the player in a dome high above the surface of an alien planet. You must descend into the depths of the planet in order to find valuable materials for upgrades. Mining is simple. The entire terrain is broken down into small blocks. Crafting game veterans are familiar with this design. Mining becomes more difficult and slower the deeper you go. You should upgrade your equipment before you go too far.

Like Minecraft and Terraria, resources are often clumped closely together and if you notice the glimmer of light in your tunnel, digging deeper will usually reveal more valuable materials waiting for collection. After the resources have been extracted, they must be manually moved to the dome for storage and usage. This is accomplished by pressing the button to tie resources to your needs and the more you drag behind you, the slower you'll move. Eventually, you'll become completely inactive until you drop a few chunks on the ground.

Once your resources are at your base and are in the base, they can be fed into upgrades for your jetpack and drill that will enable faster mining and traversal along with the capability to carry more resources at a time without affecting your manoeuvrability. You can also upgrade your dome to protect your base from the hordes of creatures from the other side.

The tower defense area is handled by a huge laser on top of your dome, which can be rotated across its surface in an arc that targets any direction. You can hear the incoming threats and direct attacks on your dome from down in the tunnels, and you'll know when it's time for you to get back up and tidy your house. Upgrades to your dome show important information such as the time until the next attack, and the health status of your dome.

The moment is that Dome Keeper offers two difficulty settings - the default 'brutal' setting and a slightly less intimidating "hard but doable" option. It's quite punishing at first and the banging sound from the surface will cause you to panic. You can play the demo on Steam.
