Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney says his firm "definitely will not" follow Minecraft developers in banning non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

As previously reported, Mojang Studios, Minecraft developers, has halted NFT integrations on Wednesday, as it believes that NFTs have a speculative aspect and scarcity, risks of exclusion, and fraud are against the game's principles.

The move was viewed as highly controversial within the NFT community, but it has been met with praise by the cohort of crypto-skeptic gamers.

Sweeney's company is the creators of the highly successful battle royale game Fortnite and is seen as a Metaverse platform. Although Epic Games isn’t necessarily pro-crypto and NFTs, its CEO has stated that the company doesn't intend to force any opinions on the subject to its users.

Developers should have the freedom to create their own games, and you should be able to choose whether or not you want to play them. The Robinson Music I believe that operating system makers shouldn't interfere by imposing their opinions on others. We won't.

In response to the post, Twitter user Low5ive asked Sweeney if Epic Games' policy on prohibiting "hateful/discriminatory content" differs from this. In reply, Sweeney suggested that Epic Games does make "editorial" judgements, however NFTs don't currently fall under them.

He stated that a store could make no such decisions, and could only accept any legal game draw a line at accepted norms , as we do, or even accept games that are in line with the owner’s personal convictions.

The NFT ban by Mojang Studios has left one particular project, dubbed NFT Worlds with a major problem to resolve, considering that it was built on one of Minecraft's open source servers.

The community-driven play-to earn (P2E) platform has an entire ecosystem of crypto and NFT built around it and its NFTs producing 51,000 Ether (ETH) which is $80.8 million worth of trading volume at the time of writing. However the NFT floor price has dropped from 3.33 Ethereum down to 1.01 ETH since the news came out. In addition, its native token WRLD fell 55% in the timeframe.

After the Mojang announcement, the NFT Worlds team stated it is "brainstorming solutions" on how to proceed. The team mentioned that it is trying to connect with Minecraft to explore if a solution is possible. In the meantime, a switch to a "Minecraft-like game engine" or GameFi platform has been outlined as possible possibilities.
