From Fernley to Tonopah we drove an additional 6 hours. It was as bad in Tonopah as it had been in Reno. I felt blessed that we'd traveled thus far without incident. Heather and I had formed a routine of communication. When lights would appear in the distance, she would call out "Snowplow" which meant to slow to a crawl because we'd soon be in a white-out as they drove by, blinding us with the offspray of snow. I'd give her a heads-up on cars coming up from behind so she wouldn't think I'd dozed if she heard repetitive thumping sounds from shoulder grooves when I'd scoot over to allow for passers. I wouldn't go so far as to say we were getting good at this, but we'd quickly come up with survival skills. It was a team effort.

Geminis are the original multi-taskers. They can eat, drink, read the newspaper, shave, or apply make-up all while driving, although this is NOT recommended, even if you're a Gemini. It's the sign of the twins; while one is driving the other co-pilots.

While snow is common during April, the amount the Midwest has received lately is more than usual. Record amounts of snowfall occurred in many places. Chicago's O'Hare Airport had three inches falls which surpasses the mark of 2.3 inches previously recorded on April 11th, 1954. Milwaukee's record snowfall for April 11th was shattered. They received 7 inches of snow and the prior record was 3.2 inches in 1997. Different parts of the Dakotas received 7 inches of snow which is higher than usual during this time of the year. Northern Illinois received 6 inches of snow because of the storm.

To expound a bit, by no means is it a lack of talent that blocks them, it's their gut. I watched the odometer countdown the miles. We were almost there.

The next issue hinges on the believability of the movie's plot. No one knows for sure the depth of the actual relationship between Austen and Lefroy. The movie makes several leaps of faith, creating a deep love between the two main characters. There is, of course, little substantial proof that Austen and Lefroy were as close as the movie suggests. By her own account, she was fond of him, and the general consensus among Austen scholars is that Lefroy was the basis for Mr. Darcy (for those of you who continued reading up to this point instead of turning on The Deadliest Catch, Mr. Darcy is a hero of Austen's classic Pride & Prejudice).

The back nine is a much better challenge than the front. It starts with yet another great par five, and like the two long holes on the front, is virtually unreachable in two. Every step of the way, accuracy is required on this hole, first with a fairway metal or long iron through a window that stays short of a creek, then another long shot that avoids a watery grave that lines the entire right side of the fairway. We played this one like we knew what we were doing, with Hansard rolling a ten-footer for birdie while I wasn't disappointed with a par.

Drivers all across the country could be feeling the sting if this trend continues.

Mario Andretti, 71, is the only driver to ever win the Indianapolis 500, the Daytona 500, and the Formula 1 World Championship. He won four IndyCar titles and is the last American racer to win the Formula 1 Championship (1978).

The temperature dropped and light flurries began. I went to the corner gas station for a cup of hot coffee. On my way into the store I spied a young college kid sitting Indian style on the cold pavement by the newsstands just outside the doors. He politely asked for any loose change I could spare. I gave him what I had--not much at all. Inside I was pouring my coffee into the cup when I overheard one of the employees say to the other, "There's some kid outside. I'm going to tell him to move on." I felt badly about their lack of sensitivity, especially in this cold weather. I redirected my attention to a sale rack of hats and gloves and grabbed a set for myself.purple for wisdom would do nicely, I thought.

Street Fighter- I loved this game as a child. Every kid that lived in my neighborhood came over and played it on a regular basis. You might imagine how intrigued I became as a young boy when I heard that one of my favorite games was becoming a movie. Then I watched it and my intrigue turned into some sort of shocked impression like watching a twenty traffic pile up on the interstate. What's wrong with this one?

The 15th hole is officially my nemesis. The tee shot requires golfers to hit into a drastically up-sloping fairway that doglegs quickly to the right. If you survive that test, the reward is a completely blind shot into an elevated green that I can never seem to find. I managed to be a flop shot away after two, not a bad effort considering my track record on this one. But if it isn't one thing, it's another. After failing to find Hansard's bombing tee ball, he played a provisional that wound up short. It was looking like my one-stroke lead was about to grow heading into the final stretch - until his original tee ball appeared some 30 feet off the green. He used the opportunity to roll in another birdie, while I managed just another bogey. So dissipated my lead.
