Minecraft film is'set to hit silver screen'

The hugely popular block-building game Minecraft could soon be made into a movie.



Minecraft creator Markus Persson revealed this week that the game's creator was in talks with Warner Brothers about the project.



Mr. Persson claimed he disclosed the news to thwart another person who tried to leak information about the deal.



Movie news site Deadline reported that one of the producers for the Lego Movie is in charge of the project.



Warner was planning to turn into a "live action" version of the game into a feature film, said Deadline.



The film is in its infancy, as Warner has just acquired the rights for Minecraft's iconic characters, blocks, and monsters.



This news comes less than two months after Mojang, Minecraft creator, ended an Kickstarter campaign to raise money to make a film inspired by the game.



Film adaptations of the top-selling games have had a turbulent past in Hollywood and many projects do not even get past the planning stage.



A film set in the science-fictional Halo universe, for instance has been in development for nine years but filming has yet start despite several different scripts being written.



Similar films based on Bioshock or Gears of War have been discussed but there is no film that has begun filming. Minecraft servers
