Minecraft film'set to hit silver screen'

28 February 2014

The block-building game Minecraft which is wildly popular, could soon be made into a movie.

Minecraft creator Markus Persson revealed this week that the game's creator was in talks with Warner Brothers about the project.

Mr Persson said he revealed the information to stop another person who tried to divulge information about the transaction.

Movie news site Deadline revealed that one of the producers for the Lego Movie is in charge of the project.

Deadline reported that Warner was looking to create a film from an "live-action" version.

The film is in its infancy, as Warner has just acquired the rights for Minecraft's iconic characters blocks, monsters, and blocks.

The announcement comes just two weeks after Minecraft creator Mojang took action to shut down the Kickstarter project seeking to raise funds for an adaptation of the game.

Hollywood has a history of remaking popular games for film. Many projects fail to make it to the production stage.

A film set in the science-fictional Halo universe, for example, has been under development for nine years but filming has yet to begin despite a variety of scripts being written.

Similar films inspired by Bioshock, Gears of War and Metal Gear Solid Work have been discussed, but none have yet begun filming.

One game that is definitely being made into a movie is World of Warcraft, filming began in the latter part of January, with British director Duncan Jones in charge. The film will be released in the first quarter of 2016. Yan mail
